In South Africa knowledge of the healing power of plants is engrained in our cultures and trusted by people based on centuries of collective wisdom. A deep-rooted sense of nature’s ability to soothe and heal finds its expression in skin care based on natural plant extracts, many of them sourced from Africa’s rich biodiversity and heritage of traditional medicine.
African Extracts has at the heart of its brand an antioxidant powerhouse in the Rooibos plant, sourced only in the Cederberg mountains of the Western Cape. It’s so rooted in the ancient, mineral-rich soils and climate that, like Champagne, only Rooibos grown in this 100 by 160 km area can be called by that name. Some of the antioxidants, which are the skin’s natural defence against oxidative stress and environmental harm, are unique to this fynbos plant, which also has zinc and natural alpha hydroxy acids.
Together with Rooibos, African Extracts uses an array of plant extracts. There’s Baobab to help reduce oil and shine, Buchu to purify and balance oil and moisture, Chamomile to soothe, Everlasting and Daisy Flower for anti-pollution, Evodia for radiance and Spilanthes Acmella to smooth the skin. And skin-compatible oils like Jojoba, Grapeseed, Sweet Almond and Neem. These are just some of the plants we use, along with advanced skin-science actives, like ceramides, peptides and hyaluronic acid.
