With so much conflicting skin-care advice, products and even home remedies out there, how can you tell what’s true? These mythbusters will help clear your head – and your skin the right way.
Dirty skin causes spots?
Spots are triggered deep inside your skin, so surface cleanliness has no effect on acne. Wash your face in the morning and evening to remove oil and dirt. Over-washing can irritate your skin and cause more oil to be produced.
Chocolate and greasy foods cause acne?
So far, research has not found any foods that cause acne. But eating a healthy, balanced diet is good for your skin health – so stick to junk food as treat!
Squeezing blackheads, whiteheads and spots help?
No – resist the temptation! This could actually make spots worse and leave you with scars and dark marks.
Sunlight helps dry out spots?
Exposure to sun doesn’t help. Too much UV can cause dark marks. Many skin-care products and acne medication make your skin more sensitive to light, so use a sunscreen if you are going to be outside a lot.
