When it comes to South African consumers, not only are we very diverse but our skins face some very harsh climatic conditions. No matter how impressive independent test results for our new HYDROFIRM-C+ Moisturiser are, the real test is out there on the faces of South African women.
A total of 110 people (109 women and Mark from Shaka’s Rock) enlisted in our consumer trial. They live in major urban areas in the Western Cape, Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal and ranged in age from late 30s to in their 80s (the average age was 51).
We sent them the Advantage Creamy Cleanser and Misting Toner, and the new HYDROFIRM-C+ Moisturiser, Night Treatment and Serum, along with a detailed workbook in which to record their impressions and results. After the 28-day trial, all the workbooks were collected and the feedback analysed.
The results were overwhelmingly positive, with well over 90% saying they would continue using the products and recommend them to others. More than 100 reported visible improvements in moisturisation, loss of firmness, lines and wrinkles, skin brightness, uneven tone and age spots.
They also confirmed that supporting a local brand that is affordable and cruelty-free is a priority.
But it was their stories that touched us the most. One participant said she lost her husband during the pandemic and could hardly face getting out of bed, let alone taking care of her skin. ‘My confidence has returned, my skin looks amazing and I feel like I can face the world again.’
A breast cancer survivor with very thin skin reported wonderful results with the Serum.
Another said that ‘the daily routine was good for my soul’ saying that in her 50s she had realised for the first time the results that were achievable from using one range consistently. Best of all were the many women who received compliments on how well they were looking – showing that real beauty is more than skin deep, and that how we feel about ourselves is reflected to the world.
And, yes, it worked for Mark too!
